Latissimus Dorsi ; A Massage Therapist's Monitor


What is always that the Latissimus Dorsi? Commonly known as the lats, the Latissimus Dorsi is always that the largest back muscle.

Anatomy

Origins: T7-T12, the iliac crest (the front uppermost ridge to your pelvic girdle), 3 or 4 all of the lowest ribs, the bottom method of obtaining the shoulder blade.

Insertions: Top of the the humerus (the upper arm bone that works well into the shoulder joint)

Actions: Revolves the shoulder (which options the arm) inward, or brings the arms closer the body. Involved in all lifting, carrying, climbing later swimming. Pushing on the arms of your own chair when standing started.

Antagonist: Deltoid (the muscle at the top of the arm), and some trapezius (another large heel bone muscle).

Common Injuries

Hanging in case there is monkey bars, pulling yourself up with your arms.

Symptoms

A tightening to your muscle may be felt into the shoulder blade that gets to be more severe on breathing.

A spasm in that , lats may be because of the forward rotation with respect to pelvis. If treating the lats alone fails, it might help with respect to stretch the same-side iliopsoas as well.

A pain that causes it to felt on or near a rib becoming more painful when coughing or even the sneezing.

Self-Care

Stretching: Lat Stretch

Stand with arms over head, reaching as high as you can. Hold 10 to 30 seconds.

Hip Flexor Stretch

Do an intense lunge: back knee bent and on to the floor, front knee bent with foot on to the floor. Push hips forward while keeping the back straight. The stretch should be felt at the top of the forward leg. Carry 10 to 30 secs.

Strengthening: Lat Pull Down

Using a lot of Lat Pull Down individual.

Massage Techniques

The Swedish come near, Effleurage, over the entire muscle to warm it up.
